Exercise: Build a DCMA site plan for Line 1 Mixer

With the project analyzing cleanly after Module 7, you'll now produce the two deliverables of a DCMA explosives-safety site plan (ESSP) for a single facility — Line 1 Mixer: the submittal form and the drawing. The form is generated directly from the feature; the drawing is built from a Result Set so it stays frozen as a stable artifact even as the project keeps changing.

Learning objectives

By the end of this exercise you should be able to:

  • Generate a DCMA submittal form for a specific feature
  • Build a Result Set from selected governing arcs
  • Tune a Result Set's arc precision and dimension lines for a deliverable
  • Export a drawing centered on the facility, with a legend

Prerequisites

Start from the Module 7 project

Continue in your Module 7 project if you still have it open. Otherwise, import the finished Module 7 project (relationships built, violations cleared) and re-run analysis so the results are current:

Download the starting project (.siter-snapshot)

1. Generate the DCMA submittal form

  1. Select Line 1 Mixer to open its feature dashboard
  2. Click the download icon in the dashboard header and choose Generate Feature Form (see How to generate a submittal)
  3. In the form tab, set Criteria to DCMA. The form renders for Line 1 Mixer
  4. Click Print Form and save it as a PDF (turn off the browser's headers and footers for a clean form)

Compare your form against the example:

Download the example form (.pdf)

2. Collect the arcs into a Result Set

  1. Open Analysis Results (toolbar check > Analysis Results)
  2. Set the results view to Governing Distances and filter to Line 1 Mixer
  3. Select the IBD and IZD arc rows
  4. Save the selected arcs to a new Result Set (see How to save a new Result Set)
  5. Switch the view to Violations to confirm no violations remain for Line 1 Mixer — there shouldn't be any after Module 7. If any do appear, select them and add them to your Result Set as well

3. Rename and tune the Result Set

  1. Open the Result Sets sidebar and open the Result Set you just created
  2. On the Details tab, rename it Line 1 Mixer ESSP
  3. On the Calculations tab, select all arcs and set the Arc Precision to Very High (see Adjusting arc precision)
  4. Add a dimension line to the IBD and the IZD arc
  5. Override the IZD arc's dimension-line text to read: 110% IBD 1.1: 1,020ft
  6. Save the Result Set
tip

Save often when working in a Result Set — any edit marks it "dirty," and unsaved changes will be dropped if you close the dashboard.

4. Export the drawing

  1. Leave the Line 1 Mixer ESSP Result Set toggled visible on the map
  2. Return to Line 1 Mixer's feature dashboard and generate the drawing from the download menu — Generate Drawing (1":400') with Legend (see Drawings for the presets)
  3. The drawing opens in a new browser tab. Confirm Line 1 Mixer is centered, the IBD and IZD arcs are drawn with your dimension lines, and the legend names the facility. Save it as a PDF (headers and footers off)
tip

While the Result Set has its own Generate Drawing functionality, generating the drawing from the feature dashboard while the Result Set is visible automatically centers the drawing on Line 1 Mixer and fills in the legend title for you. This is perfect for a single PES submittal drawing.

Discussion

Siter helps to automate two of the artifacts required for an ESSP: the form carries the numbers and citations an authority needs to audit the siting, and the drawing carries the spatial picture. Generating the drawing from a Result Set rather than live results allows you to keep that analysis snapshot tied to when you shipped a deliverable. The Result Set freezes the arcs, symbology, precision, and dimension labels exactly as you tuned them.
