Requesting online access

Online Siter is a hosted environment that requires a user account before you can sign in. This lesson covers requesting access, completing first-time sign-in, and confirming that your assigned role allows the actions you intend to take.

Learning objectives

By the end of this lesson you should be able to:

  • Request access to the online Siter environment
  • Complete first-time sign-in
  • Identify your assigned role and confirm it covers your intended use

Requesting access

Online Siter does not allow self-registration — an administrator at your organization (or at Siter, depending on the deployment) provisions the account before you can sign in.

  • Go to Siter.app
  • Select "Request Access"
  • Select your chosen authentication method ( Microsoft of Google)

After the request is approved, you will receive access.

warning

If you receive an error while trying to request access using Microsoft, it is likely your Microsoft tenant is on a GCC High or Government environment. Further configuration with your IT will be required, send your IT administrators these instructions and then contact your Siter administrators.

Identifying your assigned role

After sign-in, your role determines what you can do in any given project. Roles are assigned per project and globally — the same user can be Read Only in one project, Edit in another, and Admin in a third. But the applicable permission must also be assigned to your account.

RoleWhat it allows
Read OnlyView features, results, and drawings; cannot run analysis or modify anything
EditEdit features, run analysis, modify result sets, produce drawings, but cannot share the project or manage project users
AdminCan share the project and assign permissions

Try it

Sign in to online Siter, open a project you have been added to, and confirm your role. Look for the actions appropriate to your role:

  • Read Only users should see results and drawings but no edit controls
  • Edit users should see the Calculate / Analyze controls in the toolbar
  • Admin users should see a sharing menu on the project dashboard

If the controls you expect are missing, your role probably is not what you think — escalate to the project's Admin before assuming the application is broken.
