Importing and exporting

Siter supports importing and exporting project data in several formats, allowing you to bring in existing GIS data, share projects between Siter instances, and export data for use in other tools.

Prerequisites

  • You must have the ProjectUser role or higher for import operations
  • You must have the ProjectReader role or higher for export operations

Project import and export

How to export a project

  1. Open the project dashboard by clicking the project name
  2. Click the settings gear icon
  3. Select Export
  4. Choose the export format:
    • Full export — includes all project data, layers, features, and undo/redo history
    • Snapshot — a lighter export without the undo/redo stack
  5. Save the .siter-snapshot file

How to import a project

  1. Click Projects in the top navigation bar
  2. Click the settings gear on the My Projects panel
  3. Select Import
  4. Select a .siter-snapshot or .siter-snapshot.json file
  5. The imported project appears in your project list

Layer import and export

How to import a layer

  1. In the Feature Layers sidebar, click the upload icon
  2. Select a file to import — supported formats include:
    • Shapefiles (.shp with associated files)
    • GeoJSON
  3. Configure the import settings (coordinate system, layer assignment)
  4. Click to import

You can also import layers from the toolbar Apps menu by selecting Import.

How to export a layer

  1. In the Feature Layers sidebar, click the menu icon next to the layer name
  2. Select Export
  3. Choose the export format
  4. Save the file

Facility data import

How to import PES facility data

  1. Click Apps in the toolbar
  2. Select Import > PES Import (or the appropriate import option)
  3. Select the source file (e.g., ESS PES Details export)
  4. Map the imported fields to Siter feature properties
  5. Review and confirm the import
warning

Importing data overwrites existing values for the matched features. Review the import preview carefully before confirming.
